What is Somatic Therapy?

As well as being a Conscious Parenting Coach I am also trained in Somatic Therapy and work with clients 1:1 in person and on zoom. I also weave in somatic work with my Coaching clients… so what the hell is somatic therapy?

In essence its a way of exploring problems and intentions through the body rather than just talking about our feelings in somatic therapy we talk but we also spend time sensing our feelings and how they are showing up in the body.

To me this makes complete sense. We are not just brains on vehicles. Our bodies are giving us so much information all the time and if we slow down and feel safe enough to listen it can be the start of a transformative journey.

The main principles of the somatic work I practice are:

Soothing

How can we bring in more soothing to difficult emotions or stuckness in the boy

Grounding

How can we feel like we are more sturdy and settled and not stuck in spiraling

Resourcing

Trauma happens when big things happen but we did not have the resources to cope. By bringing in resourcing into our bodies we can help our nervous system be better resourced to be able to respond to daily challenges and transform blocks and barriers that are keeping us stuck

Nervous System Awareness

Becoming intimately attuned to your nervous system and using it as a map to know your capacity and when to set boundaries on your energy.
